MNG Kargo, Supporter of Ankara Accessible Film Festival
Derived from the idea based on the simple fact that every individual has a right to participate in the cultural life, Ankara Accessible Film Festival, started its journey in 2013. The purpose was, and still is, to state that the
conditions are need to be arranged for disabled individuals for their right to engage in social and cultural activities like anyone else.
The festival, sponsored by MNG Kargo same as the last year, offers accessible movie screenings, workshops and other side events within the scope of AAFF arguing that the individuals with disabilities should have the opportunity to watch movies together with their loved ones, participate in cultural and social events and develop and use their creative, artistic and intellectual capacities to enrich both themselves and the society in which they live.
Selected contemporary movies are presented with audio description – for those who are visually impaired, and sign language and detailed subtitles – for those who are hearing impaired. The Q&A sessions following the screenings are translated into Turkish sign language. The workshops and other side events within the festival are arranged to be easily accessible for individuals who are visually or hearing impaired. All the venues where festival events take place are selected carefully so that individuals with orthopedic impairments can easily reach to the events.
Every year, the festival prepares more than thirty accessible feature and short films, and documentaries which are the contemporary and classical examples of Turkish and international cinema. Moreover, it creates an accessible movie archive by compiling these movies in Accessible Film Library. Supporting the motto of the festival “right to participate in cultural life, for all of us!”, as MNG Kargo, we are proud of being a part of this organization…
